Jerry Magan

Jerry Magan wanted to become a firefighter from the time he was six years old.  He and his best friend David Batte would use a picnic table as their fire truck turning the two benches upside down on the table and then pull a water hose to put out the make-believe fires. Jerry joined The Woodlands Fire Department in March of 1979 under the direction of Fire Chief Bill Neill as a dispatcher and later ranking up to become a Battalion Chief.

BC Magan loved his fellow workers and felt they were all family.  He rarely shared what he experienced out in the field.  He would always say ‘I leave home at home’ and ‘work at work’.  BC Magan started showing signs of PTSD around 2007 with depression also caused from pain from injuring his back.  His depression became worse until he had a breakdown at TWFD on October 5, 2011 - with that being his last day of work w/TWFD.  He did not have support from the Chief of TWFD that I was ever aware of.

BC Magan was always very concerned about his firefighters and spent time worrying about possibly making a wrong call and causing his younger firefighters to become injured. Jerry was a very caring person and only spoke positively about everyone, but his heart was so broken because he felt alone. His most favorite thing to do was visiting with former Fire Chief Steve Dossett and his wife Lisa Dossett at their ranch in Wortham, TX.  During our visits with the Dossett’s - BC Magan would pull some pranks and we would all laugh for days.  BC Magan is sorely missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, family and many friends.
